A month ago I went back to Beirut on a business trip. It was shorter that last year, so we didn't get to do as much stuff and mostly stayed in the same area (Solidere & Nejmeh Square) - not to mention it rained most of the time!

My newer camera is much better taking photos at night, so I had fun with that :D

Long time no post! Nothing too exciting going on, I've mostly been working lately. A lot. And when I'm not working, I'm just tired and sleep! I am really looking forward to a few days off over Xmas :D But work is going great, so I can't complain!

David is out of hospital and seems to be doing better. He has to do a week's work experience this month, and will be coming to my office. I am assigning him a small project and will teach him how to make a small website - probably using iWeb or something. But it will be nice to spend a few days with him now that he is better :)

Oh actually something exciting did happen. I got a spanking brand new AWESOME computer at work... a the new 27" imac!! My boss has been wanting to get me a mac for a while and also wanted a shiny computer for client presentations. It's the basic one (Core2Duo and not QuadCore) 3.06 GHz processor, 4Go RAM and a 1To hard drive, but it's really more than I need to work (basic macs are already WOAH machines. It also has the wireless keyboard and the new wireless magic mouse which is just so awesome. I love the feel of it (it's metal and glass - I think). It's just so nice to use and you can configure it nicely (scrolling is very intuitive with it). I am getting one for my iMac at home - and BTW my 24" now looks tiny compared to this one! lol. And best of all, the screen resolution is huge - 2560 x 1440. It really brings extra comfort when you use it, and it's much easier to display several windows/apps at one. *hugs shiny new computer*

I will have to take a pic in daylight so you can see all it's gloriousness though. Everyone that has come in the office today has been gawking at it (mine if the first office so any client coming in sees it, which is another reason why my boss got it, he's a bit of a showoff! :p)

I need to get my Xmas shopping done this weekend. I am happy that it's December, because the shops are all open on Sundays (damn you France and you worker's unions!! And hey, I used to love working on Sundays when I worked in stores, I got double pay!). I have my Xmas outfit decided on (a sequined black and grey minidress - yes I plan to bounce around shouting 'I can sparkle too!!'), but I would like to find some new boots (hell, I really need more shoes... or not) and I need a new handbag, so shopping will be fun :)
Not to mention I have another dentist appointment tomorrow, so I will need cheering up after that :p

One of my coworkers just went down with h1n1 flu... Given that we are all close, eat together abd have a tendency to hug... We are now all potentially contagious... Not awesome.

I went to see Lily Allen live last night, and of course, brought my camera along :) The opening act was amazing (Just Jack) and Lily was super cute. She kept giggling and saying 'Merci beaucoup'. It's funny I expected her to be a lot more self-confident on stage, but she seemed quite anxious at times.

Anyhow, the show was fun and the venue absolutely full - 6000 people (eeeeeek, I am afraid of crowds, so I was a little stressed) but since we had seats I was ok :)

The photos aren't great because we were quite far back, but I did manage some close-ups *pats camera's extra ordinary zoom*

Last night was fun. I came home at 1.30am, which was very well behaved of me :) (I then proceeded to stay up until 4am fixing myself a gigantic omelet and chatting with verycleanindeed *facepalm*)

Buuuuut, during that time I registered for Comic Con 2010 *BOOGIES LIKE WHOA*. Mo also handled the hotel room booking, so things are getting organised. It's in almost a year, but I am already very excited! Because it's COMIC CON, doh. And I will be hanging out with fun people. So yay :D I still have to book the plane tickets, but I will most likely spend a few days in L.A. with Morgan and maybe even go to Disneyland so I'm not entirely sure of the days yet :) BUT OMG AWESOME.

And less awesome, why is it that when I start typing 'Lee Adama' in google, it completes it with 'fat'. I DO NOT APPROVE *cries*

Olite (Erriberri in Basque language) is a town and municipality located in the province and autonomous community of Navarre, northern Spain.

According to Isidore of Seville (Historia de regibus Gothorum, Vandalorum et Suevorum), the city, Oligicus, was founded by Swinthila, Visigothic King of Hispania (621-631).

The Palacio Real de Olite, a fine Gothic castle-palace, was the royal seat of Charles III of Navarre.

Donostia-San Sebastián (Basque: Donostia, Spanish: San Sebastián, known officially as Donostia-San Sebastián) is the capital city of the province of Guipuscoa, in the Basque Country, Spain.

Bardenas Reales is a semi-desert in Navarre, Spain whose vegetation and rocky formations created by erosion are unique in Europe. It covers 45,500 hectares of terrain, and its most famous sight is the Castildetierra.

In 1999, the Bardenas Reales was named as a natural park, in response to the large influx of tourists throughout the 1990s, and on 7 November 2000, it was declared a UNESCO Biosphere reserve

The desert was quite amazing and unlike anything we had ever seen before. We drove through and crossed only two other cars. Not only is the scenery breathtaking, it's like being alone in the world! We initially set out to spend a couple of hours there and ended up staying almost all day :)

This tiny village was where we spend the first night of our holiday. We weren't expecting but the village was really beautiful. There was a river going through with small waterfalls, an old dungeon and a church.

This si the Chateau we stayed at! It was very nice :)

Collonges-la-Rouge is entirely built with red sandstone, its existence is proven since the eighth century thanks to the donation of the count of Limoges of the parish to the monastery of Charroux.

The monks of Charroux Abbey founded a priory in the eighth century which attracted a population of peasants, craftsmen and tradesmen who lived and prospered around its fortified walls. The welcoming of pilgrims for Compostelle through Rocamadour was a lasting source of profit. In 1308, the viscount of Turenne granted the village a right to high, medium and low jurisdiction, permitting it to govern the birth of lineages of prosecutors, lawyers and notaries. The enclosure soon became too small to contain the entire population, and faubourgs were created. Following the french wars of religion, the reconstruction of the nobility's fortune coincided with the viscounty's rise in power.

After selling the viscounty in 1738, and after the French Revolution which caused the destruction of the priory buildings, the village regained a short-lasting prosperity at the beginning of the nineteenth century. Later on, its population slowly decreased and the village was transformed into a stone quarry.

In the beginning of the twentieth century, some villagers created the association Les Amis de Collonges ("the friends of Collonges") and eventually obtained the classification of the entire village as a historical monument in 1942.

The Château de Beynac is a castle situated in the commune of Beynac-et-Cazenac, in the Dordogne département of France. The castle is one of the best preserved and best-known in the region.

This Middle Ages construction, with its austere appearance, is perched on top of a limestone cliff, dominating the town and the north bank of the Dordogne River.

The Marqueyssac gardens are on a hill overlooking the Dordogne River, with splendid views. The primary planting is boxwood hedging, with cypress and wild cyclamen. The box is more sculpted than clipped, with the organic shapes harmonizing with the landscape. The clipping is done, by hand, with only four gardeners and the planting dates from the nineteenth century.

The gardens have a sort of Alice in Wonderland feel to them (well they way I picture Alice in Wonderland :p)

Part two of my july pictures :)

Sarlat is a medieval town that developed around a large Benedictine abbey of Carolingian origin. The medieval Sarlat Cathedral is dedicated to Saint Sacerdos.

Because modern history has largely passed it by, Sarlat has remained preserved and one of the towns most representative of 14th century France. It owes its current status on France's Tentative List for future nomination as a UNESCO World Heritage site to the enthusiasm of writer, resistance fighter and politician André Malraux, who, as Minister of Culture (1960-1969), restored the town and many other sites of historic significance throughout France. The centre of the old town consists of impeccably restored stone buildings and is largely car-free.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Before I say anything, I think we can marvel at the fact that I went to see a movie on opening day and not a minimum of 6 months after it's released! Watch out, hell is about to freeze over! :p

First of all, I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Yes many things were changed and omitted or downright created, but it didn't bother me. I think the whole thing held together well and was well-paced. My boyfriend has only ever seen the movies and he had no trouble understanding what was happening and why.

The acting was great. The kids are just getting better and better as time goes by. I loved 'lucky' Harry and in love Ron. When he tumbled off the sofa I was in fits of laughter - I actually laughed so much during the entire movie, which was nice because it's also such a dark book.

I like the big emotional scenes, the caves/lake and the death. (Although I would have rather Harry be cursed as he was in the books rather than just watch and do nothing) Bellatrix was scarily spot-on as per usual. And I *loved* Ginny in this movie. Ron as was my fave (as usual :p) The Ron/Hermione scenes were mostly adorable.

Now, what I did not like. Let's remember the title of the book, shall we? Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Not Harry Potter and the Crazy Hormones. And Snape being the Half Blood Prince and his back story were barely (or at all) explained. It was just 'oh hey I'm the Half-Blood Prince, bye now', which is kind of stupid because he's in the title or the book and his backstory is really important to understand who he is and why he is so flawed (I actually do not like Snape as a character, but I do find him interesting)

Anyhow, I accepted a long time ago that the movies and films were different entities and to enjoy each as such, and not get my panties in a twist when things were changed or not exactly right... And I will be going to see it again soon :p
